Day 150: Rewrites Writer's Group
Tonight I took in about 8.5 pages including the rewrites on the press conference scene and a new scene involving Tyler buying his truck. The truck scene existed previously wherein Tyler was asking about a fancy pickup truck on the dealer's lot. He pretty much decided to buy it on the spot without a test drive. It was cute but lacking in action. Way too talky. For the rewrite, I put him and the salesman in the truck for a test drive, which was basically Tyler putting the vehic
Day 149: Second Act Restructure
In my quest to make Reydel the protagonist, I did some rewrites at the top of the second act to bring more focus on to the 'bad guys' side of the story and away from Shep, Grady and Tyler. This was really just a slight restructuring of Hiram's reveal that he is searching for the "guys in a boat." Instead of having Shep see this on TV in a very exposition-laden scene at Grady's bedside, I went directly to the press conference and built up Hiram's character and how he uses the
Day 144: Who's My Protagonist?
I seem to have a running problem with my writing. As you may recall, I had an epiphany back in October with my screenplay/novel Nightfalls wherein I discovered my protagonist was not my protagonist. That same problem has surfaced yet again with my screenplay Come Ups. Maybe. I have been dealing with a number of issues on the protagonist front since the beginning of this project. I always had it in mind that Shep was the protagonist, but early on Grady was overshadowing him. M
Day 128: The End is in Sight
I am now well into the latter half of the second act of Come Ups. I managed a substantial change to the Reydel/Hiram confrontation scene that comes out of the midpoint by eliminating the rape sequence. It has always been an awkward scene, and I have held onto it primarily as it provided some 'sex appeal' to the script. The tradeoff, however, was that it made Reydel less sympathetic. His later empathy with Grady was also rendered less believable. It also made Calida more of a
Day 125: Back in the Saddle
It’s the last day of the holiday break. After some intense recovery from my cross country trip, which was basically a lot of sleeping, I have hopefully moved back into the daily grind. This first full week back at work will test my resolve to power through the accumulated weeks of inactivity and see some notable progress. Today was spent catching up on household duties and restocking the fridge. With that accomplished, I turned my attention to the website and brought it back
Days 111 - 124: The Christmas Break
The Christmas/New Year's holiday was not kind to my writing efforts. I was well prepared going into the holidays and even managed to get some necessary proofreading done on the redeye flight home but was not able to accomplish much after that. My biggest issue was dealing with the Calida/Reydel scene and the Tyler Buys a Truck scene leading into the midpoint of the script. I gave it some considerable thought in the Denver airport and in the first several days I was in Florida
