Day 73: The Word Count Is Up

The word count is slowly inching its way up. I've hit right at 6,000 words, but I should be at 9,600 by this point. Although I have fallen behind, I have managed to pick up some words by staying late at work. This has helped keep me focused on the writing by eliminating distractions at home like TV, Internet and food. I seem to have a habit that sends me to refrigerator anytime I need an excuse to step away from the keyboard. Since there is no food at work, I keep writing.

The long hours I have put in during these first two weeks of November are starting to wear on me a bit, and it is going to be a struggle to keep it going for the rest of the month. Luckily there is a long holiday weekend coming up that should allow me to recharge a bit while still getting a fair amount of writing done.

The next big day will be this Sunday, November 15. That will mark the halfway point of the month and the NaNoWriMo challenge. My stated goal for that date is 12,500 words. That's only 3 days away and I am only halfway there. It's not looking good, particularly when you consider I have several events to attend this weekend and I've got to do some updating to the website. It seems I will be setting my hopes on the Thanksgiving weekend to try and play catch up if I want to make my 25,000 words for the month. Right now, however, it is looking doubtful that I will make that. On the positive side though, I have been pretty consistent with finding time and making the writing happen. And however the final word count turns out, I should vastly exceed the writing I accomplished in either of the first two months of the journey. It's all forward progress, and I am grateful for that.

Now I just have to find some extra time to sneak in pages on Come Ups and get the marketing going on that project. No one said this would be easy, but I was expecting it to be a little more manageble. All I can do at this point is keep pushing forward and cross those goals off the list as I make them.
