Day 29: Writer Matt Hoverman

I attended another session of Tuesdays@9: LA, a writer's workshop sponsored by the Naked Angels Theatre group. I was not presenting tonight, but award-winning playwright, screenwriter and TV writer Matt Hoverman brought in some fresh pages of his new stage play, Thrillsville. It's a very funny piece about a man dealing with the trials and tribulations of finding housing for his disabled sister after their parent's pass away. Following tonight's reading Matt was kind enough to take a few minutes to talk about the experience of presenting material in a workshop setting and why you should be involved with a writer's group. I apologize in advance for the poor video quality. My phone does not capture video well in low-light situations. I should be upgrading soon, so that shouldn't be an issue in the future.

Matt Hoverman is an award-winning writer and actor whose stage work has been seen on both coasts and just about everywhere in between. He has toured nationally, appeared Off-Broadway in NYC and worked several major regional houses including Yale Rep and La Jolla Playhouse. As a writer, Matt has received the FringeNYC Award for Outstanding Playwrighting and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Series. He currently puts pen to paper for Disney's Sofia the Great and his play The Glint bows on Broadway in 2016.
