Day 63: NaNoWriMo Is On

NaNoWriMo is going to be difficult for several reasons. One, I'm shifting gears in the style of writing - switching from screenplay to novel. That is taking a little time to adjust to. And secondly, I'm working sporadically at the moment at a day job, which just happens to occur inconveniently in the middle of the day. I was so busy taking care of creating my goals for the month and dealing with work and laundry and everything else that life throws in the way yesterday, that by the time I got around to actually writing something I was too exhausted to do anything. I laid a big ol' goose egg on the first day of NaNoWriMo. Not a good way to start things off.

Today, I spent the morning updating the website, archiving October's articles, catching up on twitter, posting in the forums, etc. That took several hours to do as I have been putting that side of things off as I concentrated on Come Ups. By the time I got through everything I was tired again. So I took a nap. Finally, I forced myself to sit down at the computer to write. And I couldn't get anything to come out. It literally took hours before I could get the opening paragraph to say what I wanted. Luckily, once I got past that, things came fairly quickly and I managed about 1000 words for the day. That's over my daily goal, but I'm still behind for the month by about 600 words.

Of course, it's only the second day of the month, so I should be able to make those words up quickly. But if I miss another day or two, it's likely I won't make the goal this month. That's a daunting feeling at the start of the month. And with everything else I want to do this month, 25,000 words is going to be a big challenge.
